Surely planning for any eventuality regarding your health is a wise decision; critical illness insurance is something that we all need to make provision for. For just a few dollars every week it is possible to protect your family financially should anything happen to you whereby you will no longer be able to provide for them.

Insurance providers, acting on the statistical information they receive from research institutes now offer this type of protection to every one of their customers.

Speaking of statistics; they have revealed recently that at least twenty percent of men will suffer from a critical condition before they retire. This figure reduces, but only slightly, for women with around 15 percent having a severe health condition before retirement.

Of course, most people do not actually feel they require critical illness insurance and would explain why they are so reluctant to start a plan. This type of policy is designed to protect those around you who you love but the primary reason why people organize critical illness cover is to ensure mortgage repayments do not lapse.

Since the advent of the Internet as a marketing and sales tool, insurance companies have promoted their products online and in recent years there has been an increase in online insurance applications. In a rush to provide this type of health coverage, many details are not looked into fully and a number of problems have arisen from attempting to do this online. Not surprisingly, insurance providers often require the applicant to undergo a routine examination to clear up any possible existing complaints right from the outset. This is also for the benefit of the claimant because if they need to contact their critical illness insurance provider, they do not want to receive an insensitive person on the other end of the phone line.

Of course smokers will pay more for their cover, even if they have given up within the previous year as they are still believed to be in a high risk group. Many things are taken into account when dealing with the risk factor associated with any type of policy including the applicant’s age, their overall health, whether the type of work they do is dangerous or any activities they participate in, not just whether they are a smoker.

Critical illness insurance will protect you if you have a terminal illness, need certain surgery or if you become unemployed owing to the condition. For people that have families, there shouldn’t even be a discussion about whether this type of plan should be arranged, should there?
